Late night of December 2 & 3, 1984 Bhopal, one of the biggest gas tragedy in the world. It occurs at Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Over 40% people and as well as animals were got trapped in this disasterand given long lasting environment disaster around effected area. From the government survey more than 500,000 people were exposed to methyl isocyanate gas and other chemicals. A government affidavit in 2006 stated the leak caused 558,125 injuries including 38,478 temporary partial and approximately 3900 deaths within 3 weeks.
UCIL factory was built in 1969 to produce Sevin and it was Indian subsidiary of Union Carbide Corporation (UCC), Warren Anderson was CEO at the time of disaster.
The disaster was unpredictable and the financial settlements were done late 1989 by both UCC and Madhya Pradesh government. But the question is!! Which is running and disturbing in my head; who is responsible for Bhopal Gas Tragedy and who is responsible for deaths of 4000 Childs? UCIL, UCC, Madhya Pradesh government or, all of them…
I have read and heard about negligence and gaining profit by company which leads unforgettable, crying human disaster in Indian Industrial history.
Is it human life so cheaper than company profit? After getting warning from the American experts in early 1981 why they did not follow it. Experts from this field know that accumulation of methyl isocyanate will be dangerous if proper care would be not taken.
In the same period other company was manufacturing Carbaryl without methyl isocyanate as an intermediate product, but due to high coast and less profits no one given priority.
I would like to appeal from our government and industrials, please do not give priority to profit against human life and mother land.
Is it money alternative for all if no then why Indian authority still not able to punish those people who are responsible for this.
Some people will think why I am asking punishment for them; I know this will not help to bring their lives, after this tragedy but at least for future, people will fear to repeat same mistake.
